LAPTOP ADVICE

Postby djwookie » Fri Jun 12, 2009 9:16 am

I am in the market for a new laptop, solely for trading. What specifications are needed in order to run MBT's platform along with MT4 comfortably? Do the new netbooks with 1GB of RAM have sufficient memory? Any advice will be appreciated.

My netbook works great running mt4, fxcm tradestation, and a chat while surfing the web. screen is small but looks perfect.
More is probably better but all order fills have been on time when I click....
And believe me, I click quick. LOL

Ya DJ, thats more than enough. Just try to keep it professional as you can which means try not to download movies, games, or anything else that can have spyware or viruses on them. And always have a "security suite" which has anti-virus,anti-spyware and firewall. Comodo I believe is the only one which is 100% free with unlimited updates and has all those 3 built in. If you cant find the security suite, then just download them individually. It would basically the same. See where it says "FREE" just download them all if you want. But the most important are the Firewall,Anti-virus and Anti-spyware.

The computer guy I work with says that you cannot have enough memory - RAM and memory on the video card. We stripped out XP Pro of all non-essential functions, keep programs to a minimum, etc. I have been around traders who have small (14" and smaller) screens, and images get very small when you have a chart and trading platform up at the same time. I ahve a 17" Dell. While heavy to lug around it has sufficient (Barely) room to have both a chart and trading platform (Navigator) open at the same time. I would opt for big screen, lots of RAM, and lots of video card memory. Make sure that the amount of RAM is expandable to 4 MEG. Just my opinion!!!

I have 1 GB or ram and its more than enough. Unless your gamming you will need a fast PC with high MEM. You will need a decent size screen. A 17 inch at least is a must, however I have a laptop with about a 14.7 inch screen and it does me fine. That one is old as well. Its only 400 MHZ with 399 MB RAM and I use Metatrader no problem.

Best Buy has Toshiba laptops for under $400 with 2gb of ram and Intel duo core processors. It's a great dollar value.

I am thinking about getting one ( but I don't really need it ).
