First entry was 123 TTE and the add on was the retest of the 2. Another 18 points.

Yea there was a nice close over, retest rejection on the 5m which gave way to the monster off a move for today. Plus I was able to grab another 6 points before that going short from where I said and then using the DC style opening hour breakout trade. And actually come to think about it the 1st trade would have been a WZ style trade of the witching hour I believe you called it earlier in the thread.

What about a 15m opening range breakout trade. Since it seems at the immediate open at 930 am est price can move back and forth, was thinking what about letting a 15m candle print then using the high/low as a breakout trade. I'm pretty sure there is already a trade setup out there of this idea, but though I would mention it to the guy that seems to know all the time based moves.

Yeah, that's the one - Witching Hour, that is.

The 15 min break is a very valid set-up always. If you are looking to play it as a WZ style, then the 15 min is good-to-go. Gives you a bit of room to trade any move back inside. You can, however, fine tune it even more by using the 5 min and then trading the momo-break of that.

If you wish to sharpen it to a katana-sharp edge, then hit it heavy as soon as the midnight candle kicks off, trading away from the Weekly Open. It's basically Buy Zone taken to the extreme. I have been running a select number of pairs this seems to work on very well and it's a killer.

I've also been looking at The Initial Balance concept for the US market (which actually is just an earlier period Witching Hour - The Twilight Zone? Mmmmmm, I like that, lol) and once I have something worth talking about, I'll post up my findings.

Finally, always bear in mind that you can run a Wick-Zone set-up off of pretty much any candle you want, on any time-frame.

Haha Lem I love you. I knew you would have a answer and setup for my question. :D Twilight zone, sounds good to me. You also always seem to be running some type of idea on a select number of pair. I feel like you do a lot of R&D when it comes to trading. Is that just you always looking to learn more or did you get that from managing money?

A bit of both. Knowledge is Power is a mantra I live by in general and yes, it's something that was encouraged in my previous life.

I did spend some time in Fundamental Analysis after getting the basics of the technical side. I had no problems with that, though tbh it's not something I do to any great degree any more.

It does also serve a secondary need and that is one of keeping me from playing around with trades. I love research (of any kind) for its own sake and so if it also stops me over-trading, it's something I'll submit to willingly.

On the subject of ''a select number of pairs'', these are the (my) usual suspects! Certain methods make best use of pairs that trend, others that range. Some run smooth, some are as mad as a box of frogs. Whichever style I am looking at, I immediately go to my default set and then whittle them down to the specific sub-set.

At the moment I am looking at three possible doo-dahs...two revisionist set-ups (Frankenbreak and Buy Zone) and one a variation on a theme (The Twilight Zone). At least I think that's all...there may be more, lol.

Lem, I think I missed some previous posts. In Red: Which timezone EST?

Midnight UK time.

If you also include the 23:00 - 00:00 before that, you will find that one will be a continuation trade, the other a reverse.

I am confused. So 23:00-00:00 is continuation trade, and 00:00 open is reverse? I thought the midnight open was like the buyzone (trade in the direction of weekly candle color).

Edit: I got it. In slow motion today.

Was out for dinner today and didn't get in on The Flip. This is the one issue with this time-slot...other life stuff often gets in the way :D

Anyway, without drilling down into the detail of it, worse case scenario would be a head-fake North, which by definition failed, then into a counter to hold that in limbo (using either the m5 / m15 tf) before unwinding that by going short at the break of the low.

As we've seen, if the original move fails, we often get the reverse move giving us a large lump of pips back.

Lol, no my bad...I actually couldn't remember off the top of my head which was which but you may be correct, I'd need to go check but it may well be the other way around.

There is however one thing to be taken into account with this, which I also didn't mention (why can't you guys read my mind?! Jeez! :P ) and that is The Witching Hour (and the previous hour variant) are only run on EJ (though Wanna did experiment with a couple of others. He'd need to confirm but it was I think EG and or UJ).

As such, I did not run Buy Zone on these as there was obviously the possibility of conflicting signals (though maybe in that case, I should have considered that and if it happened not run a trade!).

A simple mini-WZ move for the 500-Flip today. Short back into the body. Hardly huge but fair enough. TBH you'd have got more bang-for-your-buck by simply trading the Demand Zone bounce...hey ho.

I had a tentative Long Bias on The Flip tonight. That is, it came not from the preferred higher tf or the H1 itself but from the m30 and m15. Micro Demand-Zones below.

Price wasn't sitting exactly on top, which almost tempted me to go short to see if I could nab that way but seeing the upward MOMO, I did hold and took the break instead.

Worked out fine (though when it began to drop at the beginning, I thought I'd messed up, lol).

Second evening in a row that we got the initial move as a WZ fail, then made the move on the break on the return.

Swimming against the tide a little just now, with the 500 still pushing higher and by the time we get to The Flip time, it's kind of run out of steam for the day, so even if / when we do get a flip, it's not exactly full of the joys of life.

Anyway, kind of like that today. There was a flip and it was a small move. Hey, ho, still got the job done.
