Hello,
I just have to say this site is fantastic. I only visit every few weeks ( ), but learn something new everytime. Good work everyone.
My question is around hourly (H-L) range stats for FX pairs. I live in the UK and am trying to find when the major pairs (eg: GBPUSD) are most active and have the most volatility.
Does anyone know of any stats like this?
Thanks,
Alex

Alex - I attach the relevant part of an article I kept awhile back on this.
But it's really simple, especially if you are UK based : the forex day starts around 0800, generally considered the London Forex open and even GBPJPY usually "waits" until then before moving. The only pars that seem to consistently move earlier than that are AUD and NZD based (I like EURAUD).
New York open is also good, but you can make a living only taking entries during the European / UK morning - it has to be the best timezone in which to live for fx.
HTH.

no, same limitation... sorry.. so here's the nicely formatted pdf document with charts saved as an unformatted text doc... looks horrible but most info just about decipherable..
..btw, this was from 2006.. some ranges are much larger now. I monitor pair volatility using the ATR indicator in a Radarscreen window in TS8 (in whatever timeframe). If you are not scalping (I trade primarily 30 & 60 min charts), I think it's better to focus on range rather than spread / range, ie. GBPJPY and GBPCHF best at the moment.
