Thanks for posting your results, and particularly the charts.
Your results are close to what I found when I tried live.

When I first found the BZ idea in this forum, I spent a weekend manually going through my charts, creating a spreadsheet of open, high, low, and close, and working through to see if it would really work - and id did work well on paper.

Next I stepped through a M5 chart with BuyZone indicator and worked out how it would have gone if I manually placed the trades at market. It still showed a profit, but not as good as the spreadsheet. I tried to be realistic and just use prices I thought I would have got.

Then I tried it live, and some wins, but too many losses.

I haven't given up on the idea, just looking for ways to make it work better for me.

First, I've noticed that the hour is not the best time to start. maybe 15 to 20 mins past the hour is a better time.
It seems that for the first part of the hour, the price usually just drifts a bit - enough to trigger the buy/sell, but not enough to make a profit.
The main trend seems to kick in later in the hour, so why not start the BZ hour then.

Second, There is huge potential for this as a once-a-day trade. Particularly on the E/U. Still have to test it all, but something like a 12 pip buy zone, with a 50 pip TP and a 15 pip SL. Needs more work yet.

Third, I'm looking at adding TRO's candle colour multimeter to the setup. That shows the current trend on all timeframes. If it is showing all green, then buy only - all reds, sell only.

Anyway, I'll keep watching your progress.

Thanks

Peter.

Welcom e to Kreslik. Battery running low right now so will be quick.

What time frame or frames have you used and analysized? Take a look at TRO's wick and tail statistics summary. I think it is extremely helpful in setting entry targets for long and short BZ entries. It is part of the donational group. I've posted some charts with it in this thread.

Will write more when I get back on my desktop.

Short @ 1.67273, exit @ 1.67256

Hmm... moved my stop straight away after price was moving into my direction, but also got stopped out quickly. Perhaps I should wait until the candle closes before trailing my stop? Or maybe just monitor M5 instead? :-k

BZ settings

Postby mysticalchemist » Wed Nov 11, 2009 7:52 am

I could never get BZ profitable with a setting of 4 pips. I found 5 better and 6 even better. It seemed that most small whips were between 4 and 5 pips, so setting the BZ a bit higher avoided a lot of them and left the bigger swings.

I do not know what happened today. On 06:00:27 I placed my buy order, but I don't know why it did not get filled. I checked my price entries but they were all correct. So I waited for the price to retrace back to the buy zone, and on 06:14:13 my long order got executed.
