Great effort has been made to put up these posts together as you did. Great read. I am not an expert here, but i want to put a few random thoughts. You expressed quite strong opinions on Jesuits and the Pope, who i dont know much about. I wander where did it all start, i mean your negative opinion on them. I can see you might not like their overly technical approach, but it wasnt that, was it?
The old words are actually necessary to accurately read the Bible and their use is explained in the pages before Genesis...
Great effort has been made to change God's word, here a little & there a little, until no truth remains; even 'The Complete Jewish Bible' is corrupt...
If I wanted someone to have absolutely no hope of ever finding the truth then I would give them an NIV or NKJV Bible (I would say NWT, but it is so thoroughly edited that you cannot even call it a Bible)...
I agree English is a very rich language and describes things much more precise than eg my native Polish. I m not so certain though if it is that rich in religious vocabulary (compared to greek or latin). I agree that changing one single word can alter the whole meaning of the sentence. And its bad. Going farther - to understand the Bible one needs to be familiar with Israel`s history and tradition. What chance do we have there??
However the Bible to me is not only words - thats also images/emotions/situations/examples. How would u eg see David? Would u focus on what he had said or how he lived/who he was?... But even this (picture) is secondary to me.
Did not God promise to preserve his word? Did not God write the New Testament in the language of the gentiles (Greek)? Did not God move men, at the cost of their lives, to translate the Bible into English? And what is the lingua franca of the gentiles today? English!
It should amaze you that the whole world is being moved to learn the language to which the Greek was faithfully translated.
You seek the light through your own efforts because you don't understand what God is telling you:
"For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent." -1 Corinthians 1:19
& did not Moses say to God "who am I that I" to which God said "Certainly I"? Did not God then say "I AM THAT I AM" followed by ":" which means 'now let me explain'? And what did God reveal to Moses about his name? He said "I AM sent me"; what is missing from the name of God?
As you said above, technical knowledge of the Bible is not quite enough, not even knowing the history and tradition. Biblical Pharisees knew it inside out. Jesus was not quite impressed with them.
I was also thinking about Jesus`s disciples. They spent 3 years literally living with Him and they did not understand a thing out of what he was teaching them (its a bit like u explain trading to us;)) Not even after His death till they received the Holy Spirit. And then...
John 14
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
