The first step is to own land, a house, and a car.

Just enough land to grow enough food for you & just enough house to
be comfortable; remember that you have to pay taxes on all the extra space that you don't use.

Go electric: http://www.zeromotorcycles.com/zero-s/features.php

Plant an indoor and outdoor garden with the goal of zero dependency
on supermarkets.

Harvest your own water:

The filter lasts for ~5283 gallons of pure drinking water and
that means that it costs 0.028-0.03/gallon.

Generate your own electricity (no recommendations here)

If you are hardcore: http://www.tumbleweedhouses.com/products/fencl/

Now if it were not for taxes you would be home free ;) but since they
have us by the balls then we are going to have to come up with some
money.

In the right location (no paved roads, waterlines, electricity) taxes could be as low as $28/month for 60 acres of land...

If you do it right, you could probably live on less than $6,000/yr.

MightyOne nailed it with that answer.

The main reason we want to diversify outside of financial instruments is because we want to make it difficult for "them" to be able to take things away from us.

Remember, you don't own any land! If you don't pay the yearly tax, that land will no longer be yours. Basically you are more like a "care keeper" of the land for "them". Isn't that nice of you :)

But everything you can do will help...

Now if you had a life savings of 1 million dollars and went out and bought this large property and mansion. All of or a very large amount of your net worth is in this property. If "somebody" were to take it away from you, you would have NOTHING.

DIVERSIFY, DIVERSIFY, DIVERSIFY...Don't make it easy on them! :)

I would not worry too much about the "savings strategies"...

They all pretty much do the same thing...keep up with inflation...

Or you can buy physical gold and silver and hedge yourself against inflation... accumulation of real physical assets is what you want to do. its almost like opinion leaders and trend setters of tomorrow will be prone to much more real, natural way if living because we are getting screwed every other way by the man...

Never forget.

What value is it to be the $$ richest $$ man in the cemetery?

There is more to WEALTH...TRUE WEALTH, than most think or will ever understand.

Never forget about the JOURNEY, It's all life is.

Water sustains life. The cost of the filter is rather high though
