There are only 'patterns' and 'breakouts':

A pattern is a collection of closing prices in a tight area, and sometimes there are multiple patterns stacked like a 'z' in a slightly wider area (that middle bit is a space).

A breakout is anything that is not a pattern; it is characterized by a wider separation between previous and current closing prices, eg close[0] compared with close[1] and close[2].

'UP' and 'DN' is defined as anything that is within the limits of your reversal criterion, eg "if price reverses by $400 then we have reversed into a down trend".

What is up and down?

What is in and out?

You need to know these things, as they are the basics of charting!

Where people take profit is where people attempt long and short trades.

Where people take long and short trades is where people attempt to take profit.

If you can grasp what I've said here then you will save yourself a decade or two of frustration.

personally, I don't "understand" line charts, I need to see price in bar form. . .

call it a disability.

It is probably no coincidence that two of the brightest minds on this forum have also plotted their own charts.

Maybe its cuz they had no choice ? You work with what you have. You better be damn bright with $1000000 years of experience. Just kidding, much love for my respected elders.. Oh boy I should stop before I get in troubles.

Experience will make ya bright, conviction will make you invincible... with the right type of experience. Its a full circle. Believe you're special and you'll eventually start seeing special.

Oh yea Btw I was introduced to trading in early 2000s just a taste , total virgin. I remember oanda being around the time. You guys remember those eggplant on black charts, so nice. Love at first sight. I am so glad I didnt have to go the paper route Thank God. The whole process just sucks, call some random pencil pusher every hr, "Price please" , whats he thinking... This schmuck again, get a life bozo. If I were to go the call the broker, route itll have to be a cool dude, someone I can go surfing or skating with on the weekends. Brah, Give in those prices..Brah

Keeping up the times, Man..imagine giving out a hand writing love letter to a hot gal. She'd probably slap ya silly " Hey creepo, go get a iphone". You have to send out a dirty dirty with full blown O, face emojis . O..O..O.

Dont be a creep on paper charts, join the cool kids keeping up with the times.

Imagine asking Jessie Livermore how to trade and then using a computer to follow along. . .
he didn't use a computer, and so you will not experience the same deprivation of data and will not have developed the same situational awareness.

When you draw a price bar you remember everything surrounding that bar:
- what was going on in your day
- how it made you feel
- the news
- all the bars that came before. . .you were there for each one.

You might say, "what's the difference? at the end of the day there is an OHLC and I make my decisions based on that".

The difference is that the most precious thing is not the chart, but your experiences surrounding the chart.

I am not telling you to plot your own charts. . .
all I am saying is that Don and Alias are 'built different' and the people following along with them are mere shadows,
and I am trying to tell you why I believe this is so.

You gotta experience trying to close your trade when the price move steeply and multiple callers are on the lines forcing you to wait for your turn. Not to mention price already slipped while you "recite" the pair name and ask/bid to get the quote My fellow trader told me he was hiding under the desk due to the pressure and the fear of getting an earful of curses from his client the next morning. Trading back then has its epic moments My rookie days were fun and brutal.

Oh and back then, I did give origamis made of cash to my then gf. I appreciate things people made themselves more coz it shows effort and sincerity.

I am trying to tell you why I believe this is so.

I do get where you are coming from, trust me I do. All I saying (humor included of course) is with enough experience and real internal reflection, anyone can become truly special under any circumstance. As long there is enough conviction within self and the ability to shut out distractions. You see these days its not the technology, charts etc.. that hurt people, its the constant distractions. People are addicted to being instantly simulated intellectually, sexually etc.. Social media is acid for a budding brain. We live in the comparison generation. Ready to discount our own efforts and in light of another's success and process. No matter what anyone says, Humans are just marginally wiser, smart, stronger then each other not by much really. It just that most folks are followers walking around was so much mental baggage and inferiority complexes its easier to look for someone else as a guiding light & instead just to simply ask one question - How do I see it?

I've been posting a lot of Bitcoin charts, because that's the only chart that seems to matter

But now with the Djed stablecoin days within launch we might finally gain value relative to Bitcoin

I'm just enjoying some old school charting while I wait for ADA to take its rightful place among the stars.

I attached a "Nison" chart below. . .what did you get for all of that extra plotting of the opens, highs, and lows?

A better question is whether or not it is worth paying for live data. . .
15 minute delayed data is perfect
