MultiCharts What problems with data feeds/tick charts

Postby quark » Thu Apr 29, 2010 12:10 pm

For those MultiChart users I have several questions.

If you purchase the software do you still have to maintain connection with TSS server for charting to occur?

How much charting delay (bottlenecking) occurs with different data feeds?

How much bottlenecking/delay in charting occurs with using DDE data connection?

I use primarily tick charts....what is your experience?

Do you feel MC is ready for prime time using tick charts?

Can MC accept data directly from the CME data feed?

Thank all of you for your time.

Hi,

Your MC will from time to time connect to TSS servers to check if your copy is a legal one.

I made a real-time comparison between Transact and OEC data feed once. The difference was even a few seconds between the two. A screenshot attached. So data feeds' quality can differ a lot. Transact is no longer supported by MC due to Transact's bad data quality.

OEC is also a shitty data feed but it is still supported by MC.

IQ data feed is the very data feed you should be after. Do not waste time testing anything else. I did waste a few months on tests.

Never tried DDE but tried an Ascii file to feed my MC real time. In highly volatile markets Ascii was delayed by 1 - 2 seconds (but it was probably due to my slow computer and the size of the files: one file was almost 1 GB and MC had to access it constantly).

Tick charts are top notch in MC.

Regarding a direct connection between MC and CME - it would require writing a dll by TSS. I think you can enquire at their forum or via an e-mail.

Regards

I have been looking at reviews and many people say DTN IQfeed is quite good however I found this person for the UK reporting:

"If you're looking to trade hourly charts, the feed may work fine for you; but if you trade short turns using 1 minute charts, MOVE ON because you're gonna wind up wanting to strangle someone there --- their feed stops for 10 or 15 minutes without warning nearly every day and they don't care and won't do anything about it!!!"

Have you seen this kind of stuff? This was written within the last month.

Thanks.

I never heard anyone grumble about the UK data with respect to IQ.

But you can get the trial http://iqfeed.net/ and judge for yourself or search through their support forum: http://forums.iqfeed.net/ to find out if other people report such issues with UK market.
