Learn to trade successfully in 3 weeks

Postby Dragonbreath » Fri May 04, 2007 4:47 am

Evening,

I'm always getting message from newbies who've found someone or something to help you learn to trade in a few weeks! Lets think about that for just a few seconds.

Lets look at some very intelligent, determined people and see how long it took them to become profitable:

Linda Raschke - 3 years
John Carter - 4 years
Mark Fisher - 3 years
Hubert Senters - 2 years sitting by the side of an experienced trader before trading

Hubert did it the smart way, he didn't he even put in a trade for a year. We have people join our site and ask me if they will be making steady income in a month. No one wants to hear the truth:

Oh yes, I get it. It takes 11 years to become a doctor. OK it takes 4 years
of College ball before you even become a rookie in the NFL. Marcel Link took
7 years before he became profitable, I get it.

OK, I followed Alex's calls for a week, how come I am not on the cover
of Super Trader magazine? I am started to get annoyed, Dr. Smithers, I read
the section on scalpels, but damn it, I have been a whole week here at
Harvard and where is the flipping brain surgery patient? OK Mr. Jones, I
have installed Microsoft Flight Simulator, I read the chapter on the
Bournouli principle and the power and speed relationships, so how come you
guys here at Delta won't let me fly that 757 to Houston?

Sorry, experience only comes with time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We'll help you minimize that time, but not by leaps and bounds.

6 months to 2 years should be the minimum amount of time you commit to this endeavor. If you can not do that, please save of your money.

End of rant for the evening :)

I believe if you start trading in your 20's you will learn it faster than if you start in your 50s. To us it is like nintendo. We've used computers and the internet most our lives. We've been exposed to massive groups of people expressing and communication on large scales since our adolescence.

As for the message of the above spam, I don't care if there are those who are convinced they will trade profitably in a few weeks. It will only take them slightly longer to figure out the truth.

4x=0,

Interesting point about youth being important. I think passion is the most important aspect. It has to be in your blood in my opinion.

Advantages of youth:

1) Inherent understanding of computers/internet (for most of us)
2) Often over a decade of video game experience
3) Less set in our thinking patterns

Advantages of age:

1) Let's face it - money. Having a big bank roll can mean a lot especially if you trade longer term. Also means not scared of losing some.
2) Patience can be virtue in the markets. Wait for the low hanging fruit. Also more patient to become profitable
3) Time - hey if you're already retired having lots of free time can really help reduce the learning curve.

I strongly agree with the first post BTW. Everyone wants instant gratification. So what else is new in this day and age? Just my 2 cents.

Edward
Eudaimonia (pron.: you-die-moan-e-a) (Greek: εὐδαιμονία) is a classical Greek word commonly translated as 'happiness'. The less subjective "human flourishing" is often preferred as a translation.

I don't think there is anybody on this forum that thinks they will can make profits in some weeks. I don't know where this guy is coming from "ranting" about this. It's just spam for his crappy site that I will not even visit. If the guy is an actual profitable trader, he wouldn't get his panties in a twist when new traders think they've found a holy grail. IMHO

"sorry, experience comes with time"

who is he talking to???

Yes, thank you dragonsbreast we all know this. Why you felt like posting the exact same "rant" here that you posted on elite trader, who knows. It's just spam.

About the more interesting subject of youth and age in trading.

I agree age has it's benefits. Such as patience, common sense, life experience. Youth has an edge with technology, eye hand coordination / reaction time, and speed of learning. Have you ever tried to teach your grandpa to use a word processor? The money part doesn't make a lot of difference because by the time the youths are even 40 they will have much trading experience AND some money. By the time they are 50 they may have a larger account than the older folk who are just starting.

This might be a sensative subject around here :) we are surrounded by men and women in their 40s and 50s :)

LONG LIVE THE YOUTHS
