The 12ema is a slave to price. It can only do what price tells it to do.
Does price do the same thing every day?
Does price make the same patterns on EVERY level/timeframe? (being fractal in nature)

Hmmmmmm

Ok then.
We can use this if we so choose to increase our odds of the future movements.
We can use this to give us hints as to when price is slowing down or speeding up.
Is it a requirement?
Not at all.

Sam's latest webinar from Oct 8th on the first 4 "odd" enhancers is pretty good.

Can indicators be helpful when scanning through multiple chart pairs/time frames to make things quicker to see what wave or stage the market is currently in?
ONLY to those who have spent enough time to familiarize themselves with what they are looking at.

Here is a trade I took today, without the MA and BBand I would have wanted to wait until price retraced to the Green line above OR I would have had to chase it on a breakout after it confirmed.

Any indicator that has been invented can be used to trade successfully if you spend enough time with it.
A blank price chart can too.
To Each His Own.

Suppose to be where/when/how.
And yes, On a smaller chart price did return to the first 2 levels but if you missed it you'd still be waiting to enter when price hit the bottom congestion area.
Specially after the 2nd leg down.
Unless of course you employ the "Traders Trick" from a ledge.

Didn't want to turn this into a moving average bashing thread so hope I haven't done that. All I'm saying is that I've been trading for 2-3 years (as a hobby), am still not profitable and have tried all kinds of ema/sma crosses etc and have been let down like every other newbie trader.

You guys using the 12ema obviously know how to use it in an unconventional way but I really don't know what you are using as the signal.

Is it momo crosses 12ema then price returns and go? (if its with the 4hr/daily bias)

Also, it does look like this happens at key levels ie 0%, 50%,100% of higher t/f momos so I can see the merit in using it in this way.

Dan,

Dont sweat the ma....you dont have to use it......
All i use it for is to remind me to wait for my entry..
price on my entry time frame has to be below it for a long and
above it for a short... I had a real bad problem jumping the gun and getting
in to early..facing drawdown....this has improved my entries...

Traditional books tell you go long when above the ema, go short when price is below the ema...there is so much room for interpetation ....traders lose...
I found a way that works for me...9 times out of 10 when price is below the ema and I want to go long it is in the zline zone. Price also alot of times is in the zline zone above the ema... it usually gets me on a 15 min time frame 5-10 pips better price. thus giving me better postion and stop...less drawdown and increased profits.....win - win for me.

Everyone finds what works for them....

The part about the momo is just an observation...if I have my zone already drawn out...and price comes into the zone for a long trade and is below the ema at the same time...I enter....

Doji, yes the traditional way to trade ma's is above-long, below-short and that's what I disagree with as I've tried it all before and I get the feeling you have also.

I get you, even 5pips better entry means everything because my goal is 15- 20 pips a night.

I'm going over this thread again as I realize it's all been covered.

Thanks.
