What do you call yourself?

There are many people out there who trade currencies for a living. I have personally never met anyone who does so other than online of course. Since I have taken up doing this for a living after years and years of trading, failing, blowing accounts, and learning from mistakes (the hard way), I never really knew how to explain to someone what I do as a living.

For example, when you meet someone new they will without a doubt ask you what you do for a living. I've been asked once or twice and was rather awkward in answering because I wanted to sound professional about it instead of simply saying I am a trader/I buy and sell currencies pairs.

Would you call yourself a Technical Analyst, Currency Speculator, Day Trader...and how would you describe what you do, professionally, and to impress? 8)

Ajaymein,

I don't do this for a living. But one day I hope to. I am self employed though, and have been for 11 years. Im a musician. One thing I know is that people don't see what I do as a 'real' job and, I suspect, the day I become a full time trader they wont see that as a real job either.

By the way well done on the 220%!

As far as I'm concerned I don't want to impress anymore. I simply say I'm a business man. At my age I don't need to impress. I just want to make money and I keep a low profile. I am discreet. When I was 20 years old I want to impress anybody and I've made much noise around me but now I'm discreet and this is good.

also don't want to impress anyone. probably just as difficult as explaining what i have been doing for 30+ years (IT) , but when it finally takes over from the current day job, retired seems like a good easy way out.

I usually say that i sell shoes, and i am really good at it.

It is just easier than trying to explain it to people.
