I was several points in the money with my stop at break even, when suddenly..

I recieved a warning message declaring "unable to connect to order server".

Several minutes later, I was able to reconnect to order server.

However by this time my $25 gain had turned into a ($25) loss.

Moments later (as I write this) my stop was hit for a total loss of $50.

QUESTION: Why did my $25 gain turn into a $25 loss while price remained constant? Effectivly turning my break-even stop into a ($50) stop.

The order was placed and monitored with EFX Navigator.

Did you use a STOP LIMIT order or a STOP MARKET order?

I was short usdjpy

and I had a buy stop market order.

If the order was indeed placed around 11:00 CST then you were caught in the middle of server maintenence. With a stop market order and around that time, the spread can get very wide, which in turn probably triggered your stop order and some lucky person got the fill.

Be wary of times when rollover and maintenence are being done. During those times you will not be able to manually enter any trades and must call EFX. Typically from 5:00 5:12 EST and from 12:06- 12:15 EST. Sometimes maintenence takes longer however.

If the order was indeed placed around 11:00 CST then you were caught in the middle of server maintenence.

The order was indeed NOT placed around 11:00 CST. But at or around 10:00 CST.

I now know that 11:00 was a maintenance period, but still, you would think I should have at MOST been stopped at break even.

This was certainly not the case.

I will attribute this anomaly to my ignorance and the maintenance period.

NEVER USE MARKET ORDERS...

ALWAYS USE LIMIT ORDERS!!

That is nothing. On Oct 18 I went short with a 30 pip market stop above my short price. I check in later that day and my stop was hit but the loss was 45 pips. I checked TS forex and the price had not gone anywhere near my stop price. I call EFX they tell me that the back etc etc. I turn off my screen to think about it. It made no sense at all.

About 7:00 I just happened to be around and got a call from EFX. Some guy tells me that the bank gave them some bad tick data. He tells me the trade was put back the way it was before the problem. I was STILL in the market. Naturally my emotions were on a roller coaster so I covered the position with a 22 pip loss.

I checked the trade at the end of the day. Had this not have happened I would have had a nice profit based upon my Limit price to the down side.

This is crazy. I haven't been in the market with these guys since. I stand in doubt of them.
