Hello,

i followed the discussion around TS.
I have an IB account, want to stay there and develop an autotrading system.

So i looked at various platforms including:

TradeStation
NeoTicker
MetaTrader
WealthLab
TradingSolutions
AmiBroker
NinjaTrader
SystemRunner

and i had either problems overcoming the learning curve or missed some
important features. But, i ended up buying AmiBroker Professional.

Reasons:
Database from Tick to Monthly possible
Extensive Scripting possibilities - not too hard to learn
Timeframe switchable forth and back within script sections !!!!!!
Got automatic orders placed in my paper account within an hour!
Access 'foreign' stocks, futures or indices for reference while charting another
and best: no monthly cost - buy once and that's it

This is no buying recommendation, just a:

"hey, have a look at this"

I have tried too many of 'em too...

Forgot do add: multy-variable optimization (haven't found the limit yet) and a screenshot.

Heyen,

- does AmiBroker support forex trade automation?
- does AmiBroker support alternative bar construction (like constant range bars?)

forex - yes, anything that it can obtain quotes for through the app. plug in - see their website

alternative bars - would propably have to be scripted, but as long as it is a derivate of normal tick/second based quotes it should be possible

Constant Range Bars

OK, but constant-tick-count bars are not the same as constant-range bars. Unless the "ticks" setting on the screenshot is not a tick count but a bar height in ticks which I doubt.

I'm one of AmiBroker's newest fans. I've written a bit about why I like it on my website, here: AmiBroker_Platform
I'm also hoping to write a full-length review in the not-too-distant future.
I don't know of any other software that does what AmiBroker does at anywhere near the price point!
