NT Indicators Disabled - Microsoft XP read Only File Problem

Guys,

I have a two pronged problem that is related. My NT moving averages are being disabled. And I can't copy and paste to a flash drive and recopy to home computer.

NT support said that MS automatically changes the files to a read only status. When I change them back to readwrite the XP changes them back to Read Only. And yes I have full administrataive rights.

Someone out there knows the answer. I could not locate the answer on the web. HELP

I'll take a shot at it. I moved my entire chart to a flash drive and restored to another machine. I think this is what you are trying do.
Open your chart, save it as a group. Then export that group(export package). On the other machine do Group/Import

Ztrader,

Thank-you for responding. I talked to NT and they said the reason I can't paste a copy of the backup I made to my flash drive to my home computer or work computer is because older versions of MS XP Home automatically set the files and directories to read only. Even if i change the properties on the directory XP will reset it to read only. It seems to me that NT should design their program around MS XP and not expact MS XP to design areound them.

The other problem of droping MA indicaotrs happens when I exit the program and then the next day enter the program and pull up the group. I have made sure the each window is saved with a differnt name and the group as a whole is saved with a unique name. But they are still being dropped.

NT said this problem was also caused by the read only thing. I really don't buy this. It has to be simpler that this.

I will try what you said for the indicator problem.

As I read the title of this thread, I recall XP Lite is a program that allows you to select parts of XP to use and uninstall and has a feature of allowing you to turn on and off the MS protection. I used its younger brother, 98Lite for years and it is a great program of stabilizing 98. You can get a trial before you buy and it only costs $40 anyway. I have no interest in the company and am a happy customer.

Curious on how you are progressing.

FWIW
I am not copying /pasting , so I do not see any XP version/protection situation. I use NT to do the Group/Export to the flash drive. Then Group/Import on the second machine using NT. I am going XP Pro to Pro. This method is moving a group with only 1 chart, having around 9 panes and 30 indicators. Works Nicely.

I remember some past network file copy problems using XP home and Pro. I think it was Pro not showing itself(files) to Home.

Ztrader,

Thanks for the tip. I will start using the export/group.
