Hello, friends,

with the growing number of forums and articles we ought to start thinking about a better structure of the forums.

Would you like the forums to be structured by the platform or by some other criterion?

Would you like to form a special private discussion groups for discussing issues that require more privacy where the group members would need an individual approval by the group moderator? This is a standard feature of the forums, by the way, so if you're interested, let me know. Any user can be set as a moderator.

Would you like to see some specific feature on the forums that you think would improve its ease of use or conveniency?

Let's talk about what would we like our forums to be. This is not a fuddy-duddy Tradestation forum, we can change anything here!!

Michal:

You are awsome. Do you have some graduate assistants helping you iwth all of this? I think the re-org of the forum is fantastic. I think a private group section would be great also. If I am to share some of my indicators I would like to hold the number of people that have access to a small number. That way, I can only show my ignorance to a small group at first and then if they work, have them exapand out later. Just a thought.

Great job on the forum. It is awsome.

I will take a shot a chaning the JPTMom to NeoTicker as my first assignment. I will try to do it in the formula first and then try to do it in C#.

Hi Michal,

I read with great interest the various posts. My situation may be similar to many in the forum, in that I don’t have any background in programming. I also am not able to day trade and trying to apply the ideas to longer time frames.

I was new to Trade Station when I came across Tro’s postings, so I have been behind the curve throughout the discussion about alternative platforms.

1. Is there ways that people with limited experience can contribute, without straining the resources of time of more knowledgeable contributors?

2. Some of the applications of the ideas are not as readily apparent to all. Perhaps there could be more thorough and basic explanation of the screens posted and how to use the strategy.

3. One thought might be to have a specific topic site for beginners. We could post one strategy a week and questions could be generated about that strategy and it’s application. This might be a time efficient way for the more experienced people to help less experienced people to grasp and implement the strategies. As they learn they may be able to contribute their experiences with the strategies to others.

4. The beginner topic site could be monitored on a rotating basis by the more experienced among us, so that their time is protected.

I so appreciate the whole new world of ideas on investing strategies. My hope is to focus on one or two and implement them effectively. Thanks for your generosity in making the site available.

Great thoughts, friends, thanks!

As you requested, I've created a brand new "beginners forum" for people that don't know "where to start".

Also I've created a "general talk" forum. Everything that doesn't belong elsewhere comes there.

More suggestions?

A Hierarchical Approach?

Some thoughts on forums,

General description of algorithms or strategy concepts are usually quite independant of the implementation details. If you look at the way that the magazine "Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodoties" organizes articles for example, it often has a general discussion followed by specific implementation details on various specific platforms.
Is it possible to structure the forums so that a concept can be presented and then various folks can contribute specific implementations on their favourite platforms. Perhaps this can be created with active links within the site?
Other kinds of posts are very platform or language specific, essentially coding "tricks", that are very platform specific and are not relevant to general trading concepts. e.g. ways to use EL Collections on Tradestation, or C# code useage on NeoTicker.
So perhaps there are 2 top levels: platform/language specific coding concepts and Trading tools.

Just a thought, thanks for all your efforts!

Knight,

great point, I have actually thought about dividing the forums to "platform-specific" and "not platform-specific" which would deal with the very idea you presented here.

Thanks for your thoughts, I will think about it some more and then I will take some action. Certainly this is the way to go.

Thanks again,
Michal
