ECB Allots EUR119.455 Bln At Main Refi Operation At Fixed 1%
FRANKFURT (Dow Jones)--Demand for the unlimited short-term credit of the European Central Bank fell further this week, the ECB said Tuesday, amid further signs of normalization in money markets.
The ECB said it allotted EUR119.455 billion at its weekly main refinancing operation, down EUR17.56 billion from EUR137.015 billion at last week's tender. The allocated amount was above the benchmark allotment of EUR107.0 billion, or the ECB's estimate of liquidity banks need to conduct routine operations.
The number of bidders at the weekly operation fell to 189 from 253 a week earlier.
The results reflect an increasing normalization in money markets, where interest rates have fallen from recent highs. Euro Overnight Index Average Rate, also known as Eonia, eased to 0.497% Monday from 0.504% Friday, after climbing as high as 1.32% at the start of February.
The ECB will conduct its regular three-month refinancing operation Wednesday.
