Let's say that your initial size is 1/100, should that count as 1 trade?
In my mind, that is 1/100 of a gain and 1/100 of a loss on every pip.
So, let's say that you did something silly:
1 + 2 + 3 + 4, into 1/10 position sizing, and the red arrows are your average price.
Here you can see that you are making 66.67% more money when you are right vs when you are wrong.
If price continues to move downward, and you scale to 20% in, then the fluctuations at 1, 3, 6%, start to look very small indeed.
Compare that to:
- make a little on trade 1
- lose a little on trade 2
- make a small profit on trade 3 and 4.
Whether you trade large with a tight grip, or small with a loose grip, your focus is the same; not losing some fixed amount of money.
I don't think that it matters if you call something a trade or part of a trade, it's all the same in the end.
